Guidelines for collecting and sending tissues (Mouse or Rat)
- Mouse Tissues: Sacrifice 3-10 mice of 5-8 days or 1-5-week old by CO2 inhalation. Soak skin with 70% EtOH or complete swab the skin surface with 70% ethanol. In a laminar flow hood, remove tissues (lung, brain, heart, kidney, Aorta etc.) with a sterile scissors and tweezers. (Note: The better cell isolation would be to isolate cell populations from young donors.)
- Human Tissues: Remove tissues (3-10 gram of skin, pancreas, fat, muscle, etc; 2-6 cm vascular tissues of artery, vein, aorta etc.) with a sterile scissors and tweezers. Place tissues in a 50-120 ml sterile tube/bottle containing 40-100 ml of cold DMEM with Gentamycin 100-200 ug/ml, WITHOUT Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
- Seal a tube with parafilm. Gently agitate. Keep a tube containing tissues in cold medium with gentamycin/without FBS on ICE (tissues cannot be frozen during shipping).
- Please note that the organs or tissues CANNOT be frozen during shipment. The cells can not be isolated from any frozen organs or tissues.
- AT THE SAME DAY send tissues by FedEx Priority Overnight mail from Monday to Wednesday.
